Dynamic Integration Bodywork

Be supported to move with ease…

I am studying a kind of bodywork/movement education, strongly influenced by Alexander Technique and Structural Integration or Rolfing, that is called “Dynamic Integration Bodywork”.  Over the last 3 years I have been traveling to Toronto and bringing my teacher, Joshua Lyons, to KW to learn this incredible approach to bodywork and movement education.

Dynamic Integration Bodywork is Joshua Lyons’ and Michael Mazur’s development of an approach to bodywork that marries Structural Integration and Alexander Technique.  It encourages the integration of changes in fascia and alignment through palpation, as well as through movement and body awareness, such as how we sense where our support comes from allowing us to move more freely and easily.

Structural Integration or Rolfing is a form of bodywork that works with the connective tissue or fascia to free up the body’s potential for movement.

The Alexander Technique is a method that works to change (movement) habits in our everyday activities. It is a simple and practical method for improving ease and freedom of movement, balance, support and coordination. The technique teaches the use of the appropriate amount of effort for a particular activity, giving you more energy for all your activities. It is not a series of treatments or exercises, but rather a reeducation of the mind and body. The Alexander Technique is a method which helps a person discover a new balance in the body by releasing unnecessary tension. It can be applied to sitting, lying down, standing, walking, lifting, and other daily activities…”  (from “Changing The Way You Work: The Alexander Technique”)

I am really excited about this work because it has had a major effect on my own body – I used to experience horrible chronic pain in my shoulders, neck and back, and now I do not.  I feel a lot more freedom and ease in my movement and breath, and experience myself as doing less unnecessary work.  When I look in a mirror I can actually see the changes in the alignment of my body, and others have noticed the changes too.

In addition to this training, my work is also informed by my background in movement, contact improvisation, systems-awareness, craniosacral therapy, energy healing, internal family systems therapy, and of course, good old intuition.

If you would like to try it out, you can call or email me to schedule a one-on-one session at a very reasonable rate, as I am still in training for $40-80 (sliding scale).

If you are unsure, you do not need to decide ahead of time which form of bodywork you want.  When you arrive, we can discuss and explore which form of bodywork makes most sense for you.
Yours,

Tanya
